Charles M. Hyatt, Sr., 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on October 13, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
Charlie was born on October 26, 1940, in New Harmony, the son of the late Paul and Nola (Mondon) Hyatt.
Charlie worked for many years in the oil fields before being hired at GE in Mt. Vernon, where he eventually joined the Maintenance Department and later retired. Alongside his full-time job, Charlie founded his own welding company, C&G Enterprise, and proudly worked on numerous projects, especially for the oil industry.
A true craftsman at heart, Charlie could often be found in his shop tinkering and working on various projects. He loved to stay busy and took great joy in “piddling around” with whatever he had going.
Charlie was also a man of strong faith. He was a longtime member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God in New Harmony and had been very active in the church’s ministry over the years.
Charlie is survived by his son, Charles Hyatt, Jr.; daughters, Charlene (Mike) Welch and Terrie (Dan) Prow; grandchildren, Johnny (Shelley) Hargrove, Jacob (Megan) Hargrove, Caleb (Rachael) Welch, Matthew (Kenzie) Welch, Amy (Corey) Orms, Matt (Kristina) Prow, Dennis (Katie) Prow, Whitney (Cole) Stephenson, and Sydney Hyatt; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Hyatt, Jr. and Larry Hyatt; sister, Linda Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger Hyatt; daughter, Carol Hargrove; brothers, Fred Hyatt, Donnie Hyatt, and Kenny Hyatt, Sr., and sisters, Roberta Hyatt, Jean Basham, and Shirley Hyatt.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Jason Farrar officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
