Christopher M. Yates

Christopher M. Yates, 49, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at IU Methodist Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Chris was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 13, 1976, to Raymond and Patricia (Lane) Yates.

Chris worked for several plastic manufacturing businesses in the Mt. Vernon area. He also worked at McDonald’s, where he truly enjoyed his job and the friendships he made with his coworkers.

Chris faced difficulties in his younger years, but he always maintained his kind and helpful nature. He was known for his caring heart and willingness to help others, often without seeking or receiving recognition for it. Whether family or friends needed an extra hand, Chris was always there to lend his support.

He served as a board member of the At the Cross Mission in Mt. Vernon, where he regularly volunteered his time helping others in the community. Chris was also a member of Point Township Church and a regular attendee of their Beyond the Walls service on Vine Street, where he proudly welcomed everyone as a greeter.

Chris enjoyed fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, often taking them to the park and creating special memories with them.

Chris is survived by his children, Chandler Pierce, Paris Yates, and Payton Yates; grandchildren, Lillian and Griffin Pierce; brother, Billy Yates; and close niece and nephew, Ashley Blocker and Cody Blocker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Melissa Sapp and Carla Blocker.

A celebration of Chris’s life will be held at 6:45 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Beyond the Walls Campus, 424 Vine Street, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.
