David L. Sharber, 75, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on December 24, 2025. Dave was born on August 20, 1950, the son of Henry and Hattie (Lamm) Sharber.
After graduating from high school, Dave enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country. His dedication to service did not end when he left the Navy. For the remainder of his life, Dave devoted himself to serving fellow veterans. He was heavily involved in numerous organizations that supported veterans in many ways. He also was involved with the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ home in Indiana before it’s closure.
Following his retirement from General Electric after 32 years of employment, where he was also very involved in GEAA, Dave continued his service to others as the Posey County Veteran Service Officer for a period of time. He was also the go-to person whenever help was needed to raise funds for a cause. Dave was well known for always having raffle tickets tucked into his shirt pocket and for helping secure funding for countless community projects.
Dave was very active in the American Legion and was a life member of Owen Dunn Post #5, where he held many duties and leadership roles. He also served in multiple positions within the Eighth District American Legion, American Legion Department of Indiana, and the National Organization of the American Legion, as well as the Sons of the American Legion. In addition, he was a member of the 40 & 8, ANAVICUS, VFW Post #2714, Eagles, Elks, and Moose Lodges, the Mt. Vernon Conservation Club, and the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club.
When Dave wasn’t working on one of his many projects, he enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and traveling—especially spending time visiting his children and grandchildren. Dave will be remembered for his lifelong acts of service, particularly to his family, friends, and the many veterans he helped throughout the years.
Dave is survived by his wife, Linda (Rainey) King-Sharber; children, Sarah Dycus, Randie (Greg) Johnson, and Dennis (Michelle) King; grandchildren, Chris King, William King, Kaitlyn Creswell, Jacelyn Johnson, Adam Johnson, and Owen Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kaiden Creswell, Keagen Caveney, and Ayla King; and siblings, Paul (Marsha) Sharber and Faye Moss.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Sharber; and a son-in-law, Jim Dycus.
