Delbert J. Stratman, 86, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville on November 14, 2025. Del was born on February 10, 1939, the son of the late Anthony and Laura (Berendes) Stratman.
Del was a graduate of Memorial High School in Evansville. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Evansville, before joining the United States Army—an important and proud chapter of his life. Following his service, Del began his professional career at General Electric Plastics in Mt. Vernon, IN. He was a well-respected tech 10, maintenance lead in the Brine Recovery division for 37 years.
Del married Barbara in 1962 and together they started their family, a part of his life he was extremely proud of. Del loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was known for his competitiveness in playing clabber and throwing washers. He was also involved in pigeon racing for many years. Del loved watching sports, especially IU basketball and the Colts. He was a member of the Eagles and a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
Del is survived by his children, Chris Stratman, Philip Stratman, and Angela (Phillip) Stephenson; grandchildren, Manda (Jake) Hess, Brooks (Brittni) Stratman, and Emma Stephenson; and great-grandchildren, Quintin Stratman and Gannon Hess. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara after 39 years of marriage; son, Quintin Stratman; grandson, Quintin Stephenson; and brother, Russell Stratman.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Church in Mt. Vernon, with Fr. Tim Tenbarge officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the start of Mass at the church.
