Elmer F. Barnes

Elmer F. Barnes, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. Elmer was born in Dalton, Kentucky, the son of the late Paul and Edna Barnes.

Elmer married Sylvia (Bailey) Barnes, and together they started their family. He worked for many years in the machine shop at B&W as a machinist. Working with his hands was something he always loved. Whether after work or during retirement, you could often find Elmer in his garage fixing something or lending a helping hand to family and friends.

When it was morel season, you would find Elmer out in the woods hunting for mushrooms. He also enjoyed collecting guns.

Elmer is survived by his children, Danny (Cathrine) Barnes, Tammy (Dave) Lottes, and Sandy Thomas; grandchildren, Kasie, Kerry, Bret, Geoffrey, and Kelly; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia; son-in-law, Tony Thomas; brothers, Leslie, Paul Jr., Donald, and Terry Barnes; and sisters, Loretta Nickell, Imogene Jones, Ruby Ricketts, and Billie White.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday.
