Georgia Catherine (Horton) Carr, 103, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away on September 24, 2025, at her home. She was born on September 6, 1922, in Griffin IN, to George and Grace Horton.
She graduated from New Harmony High School in 1940 and worked for Dr. Ropp until he entered the Army. She then worked at S.I.G.E.C.O in Evansville, until her fiancé, Charles Carr, returned from overseas in 1944. They were married immediately.
Catherine enjoyed her 10 years working with Ruth Kishline developing her custom design and retail shop. In 1969, she started her banking career at Posey County National Bank and retired 28 years later from then Citizens Bank as Trust Officer and Assistant Vice President.
She enjoyed golfing and playing cards and was a member of the Western Hills Country Club and First United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Virgil, who was killed in the Griffin Tornado. Husband, Charles Carr; sisters, Eula (Floyd) Freeman, Frances (Harley) Lewis, and Juanita Hyatt.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann (Ron) Dewig, grandchildren, Jarred (Jamie) Fisher, Barbara Dixon, Jason Fisher and Melissa (Martin) Mindrop of Evansville, IN, great-grandchildren, Cassie Fisher, Wyatt Dixon, Wade Dixon, and Macey Mindrop.
Funeral services will be held at Denning Family Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 29, 2025, with burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 until service time on Monday.
