Gerald Lee Mattingly, 82, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at his home. Gerald was born in Evansville on August 24, 1939, the son of Henry & Crettie (Hale) Mattingly.
Gerald worked as a heavy equipment operator for several years before retirement and has been a “wheeler and dealer” most of his life. He got great joy out of meeting people and buying and selling. He also loved playing Bingo with his companion, Charlotte Smithhart, who preceded him in death on October 9, 2021.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Jerry (Lisa) Mattingly and Terry Friend; daughters, Sandy (Larry) Wilson, Shelby Greathouse, and Kathy Brooks; several grandchildren, brothers, Lawrence and Mike Mattingly; sisters, Linda Russell and Debbie (Don) Fischer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Tony and Billy Mattingly; brothers, Wilson and John Mattingly; and sister, Eva Grimes.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until time of service.
