Jack B. Harris, born on June 10, 1931, in Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Earl and Ruth (Brown) Harris.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanna (Angermeier) Harris. Together, they shared a life filled with love and cherished memories.
A proud veteran, Jack served in the United States Army for 23 years, including tours in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His final assignment was with the Army Security Agency (ASA) before retiring in 1970. Following his military service, Jack worked at Snap Photo a division of Smith & Butterfield, Otis Allyn, and the Posey County Courts before retiring as the Posey County Health Inspector. Never one to remain idle, he later worked part-time at the Posey County Co-Op.
Jack’s hobbies reflected his creativity and love of craftsmanship. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, building miniature architectural models, framing pictures and artwork. Known for his remarkable memory of roads traveled, Jack loved his journeys to visit family whether it was overseas or across our country. Jack was also a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Post #5
He is survived by his children: Sheila (David) Chappell, Brian (Lisa) Harris and Marla (Mike) Walther; grandchildren: Samantha (Kevin) Chappell-Clark, Elizabeth Chappell, Eric (Jessica) Harris, Taylor Walther, and Michael Walther; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Alice (Al) Muro and Carol (Ron) Roth; sister-in-law Diane Harris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings: Bob Harris, Bill Harris, Jim Harris, and Judy Crowe.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Matthews Church with Fr. Jim Sauer officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at St. Matthews Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 24, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Denning Family Funeral Home.
