James "Jim" E. Gibbs Obituary
James “Jim” E. Gibbs, 74, passed away on October 10, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Jim was born in Evansville on August 6, 1949, the son of James and Mabel (Randolph) Gibbs. Jim was raised in and lived most of his life in Mt. Vernon, IN.
Jim retired from GE/Sabic after working there for over 30 years. He loved hunting, fishing and generally being on the water or in nature. Sitting and enjoying the view of the river while sipping a cup of strong black coffee was one of Jim's favorite pastimes. When life slowed down he began to enjoy watching baseball or boxing. He enjoyed listening to the "old-time" country music and gospel hymns. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter, Lily, his daughter, Ginny, and nephews Matt and John. His gift for helping others was his life’s passion. He was the one that you could count on to help you out of a jam. Always the first to volunteer and never one to turn anyone away. He was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and showed it in his compassion to others.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia "Ginny" (Aaron) Fields; granddaughter, Lillian "Lily" Fields; nieces and nephews, Matt (Sara) Gibbs, John Gibbs, Quyn Littlepage; sisters-in-laws, Katrina Gibbs and Bonnie Gibbs; and close family friend, Regina Grey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles and Robert Gibbs; sister, Ruth Gibbs; sister-in-law, Connie Gibbs.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Ryan Bradney officiating. Burial will follow at Black’s Cemetery.
