James “Jimmy” Goodwin, 66, of Mt. Vernon went to be with his Lord, on Thursday, February 2, 2023. Jimmy was born on April 4, 1956, the son of John and Bessie (Willingham) Goodwin. He married Judy (Rowe) Goodwin in 2008.

Jimmy was a Mt. Vernon High School graduate who later worked for Mt. Vernon School District for 23 and a half years. He was a faithful member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and was involved in many church activities, especially the Church softball leagues. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and also enjoyed Indiana Hoosiers basketball. Most of all he was a family man, who loved his family dearly. He was known for being someone that would drop anything to come help you and lead his family by that example.

Those to cherish Jimmy’s memories are his wife, sons, Jason (Jaqueline) Goodwin and Shawn (Colleen) Goodwin, and step-son, Robby Mattingly; grandchildren, Eli, Matthias, Zoe, and Addie Goodwin, Susan Hines, and Simon Coe Williams-Boggs; brothers, David and Clinton Goodwin; and sisters, Julie Becker and Jenny Hogan.  He is also survived by his former wife, Emily (Combs) Goodwin.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Marvin, William, Johnny Goodwin, and Walter McRoy; sisters, Mary Cooney, Frances Walker, and Amy Ewer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with burial to follow at Black’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the Denning Family Funeral Home from 5 pm until 7 pm, and on Tuesday an hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt.
