Malcolm Phillips Obituary

Malcolm G. Phillips, 61, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on September 2, 2025.
He was born on September 29, 1963, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Malcolm and Louise (Farrish) Phillips. Proud of his hometown roots, Malcolm cherished the years he spent in Charleston before later making Mt. Vernon his home.

Malcolm was a skilled carpenter and retired member of Carpenters’ Local Union #224. Known for his talent and work ethic, he could build just about anything and especially enjoyed tinkering on small projects in his free time. He loved telling stories, playfully teasing friends and family, and spending time outdoors. Whether cheering on Coltyn at his football games or casting a fishing line, Malcolm found joy in the simple things.

Above all, Malcolm’s greatest love was his family. He was the steady rock and trusted confidant for his large blended family, always treating each of them as his own. His devotion, guidance, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Nick (Jessica) Phillips and Coltyn Stillwagoner-Phillips; stepchildren, Miah Franklin, Gabbie Jolley, Felica, and Noah Williams; grandchildren, Hunter, Joseph, Angela Phillips, Kai Cabell, and Alayia Jones; Brock Price, Danny Cleavenger, and Joseph Jackson, whom he lovingly considered as his sons. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Debi Woods; nephews, Cory Davis and Gary Mitchell; nieces, Amanda Houghton, Dana Grabowski, Angie Lyons, and Misty Waller; former wife, Anna Stillwagoner; best friends, Chris Seifert, Donald Harris, and Joe Marley; and many other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 25 years, Angela Phillips; and his siblings, Donna, Wanda, and Russell; his mother-in-law, Nancy Derrig

A Celebration of Malcolm’s Life will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Beyond the Walls Ministry Campus, 424 Vine Street, Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating.
