Malcolm “June Bug” Ricketts, Jr., 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on January 24, 2026, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on July 24, 1945, the son of Malcolm and Dorothy Ricketts.
Malcolm proudly served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he returned home and began a long and dedicated career as a truck driver. He was a past member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges, where he served as Past Governor of the Moose Lodge, and was also a member of the American Legion.
Malcolm was a fun-loving man who enjoyed telling jokes and spending time socializing with friends and family. He always put others before himself and could be counted on by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Green) Ricketts; children, Mona (Dave) Newman, James Ricketts, Melissa (Jim) Thompson, Regina (DeJuan) Simms, Scott (Missy) Ricketts, and Kevin (Virginia) Ricketts; grandchildren, Dwayne Barton, Kyle Newman, Levi Newman, David Newman, Calin Ricketts, Deric Austin, Taylor King, Bailee Hunsinger, Cory Stewart, DeJong Harvey, A’Maree Simms, DeJuan Simms Jr., Omarion Simms, Danali Simms, Kenzie Ricketts, Madison, Scott Ricketts Jr., Leland Ricketts, Alyssa Ricketts, Desiree DeFur, Jeffrey DeFur, Titus Ricketts (Widener), Kanaan Ricketts, Shyra Ricketts, Orion Wolfe, Heavenly Sisk, Krista Wright, Adria Rohlman, and Aron Sisk; 41 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jeff (Carol) Ricketts, Lana (Cabell) Williams, Janet Ricketts, Kathy (Graham) Neill; In-Laws, Carolyn Kern, Martha Nobles, Joyce (Stan) Hack and Ricky (Vivian) Green and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, James and Bonnie Green; grandchildren, Alexis Stewart and Sarah Ricketts; brothers, Larry, Ronnie, Terry, and Randy Ricketts; sisters, Norma Savoie, Phyllis Ridenour, and Rinda Bowen; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Savoie, Danny Kern, Walter Nobles and Ronnie Green. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
