Matthew Corey Allyn Ricketts, 37, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on September 29, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for several years.
Corey was born in Evansville on April 11, 1988, the son of Charles “Chuck” Ricketts and the late Tracey (Bruce) Hellenberg.
He worked for several years at the local McDonald’s until his illness forced him to step away. Though his years were far too short, Corey touched many lives with his kindness, loyalty, and love. He was known for the support he gave to family and friends, and he had a special place in his heart for animals, rescuing many throughout his life and giving them the care they deserved. Corey also enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of WWE.
Corey is survived by his father, Chuck; brothers, Lucas Ricketts, Joshua Choate, Joseph Pope, and Jay Duncan; sister, Airian Crow; grandmother, Jenny Campbell; grandfather, Charles L. Ricketts; aunts, Jennifer (Brad) Huelsman, Sarah (Jesse) Morrow, and Stacey (Rick Bowman) Brakie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tracey; grandfather, Allen Campbell; aunt, Amy (Roehr) Money, and his beloved dog, Honey
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
