Melva J. (Cape) Taylor, 69, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Deaconess Hospital. Melva was born on November 22, 1953, the daughter of Melvin and Betty (Bradley) Cape.

Melva retired from Deaconess hospital after working for 46 years in the emergency room as their secretary. She loved her work family as her own and cherished all the years she spent with them. Outside of work she loved crafting, camping, fishing, and was previously on a bowling league.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffery; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 am with Rev. Dennis King officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home and from 10:00 until the time of service on Wednesday.
