Paula D. Neaveill (Mercer), 77, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital. Born on April 3, 1948, she remained a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, where she was a respected and beloved figure in her community. Paula's dedication to her culinary craft was evident throughout her career, as she brought joy and comfort through her cooking as the manager of the Idlewild Bar, the Waffle house in Mt. Vernon, owner of the Main Street Diner, and as a cook at both the Posey County Jail and the Elks Club in Mt. Vernon.
Her love extended beyond her professional work into every facet of her life. Paula's hobbies, including motorcycle rides with her husband and collecting hummingbirds and gnomes, reflected her joyful spirit and appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She was a committed member of the Owen Dunn Post #5 American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Paula was a cornerstone of her family, known for her fabulous home-cooked meals and her ability to make anyone feel like part of her family. Her warm, bubbly personality and strong family values were evident in every aspect of her life. Paula's life will be honored and remembered in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy of kindness, family, and culinary delight will live on.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Neaveill; her children, Michael (Teresa), Allan (Bridget), Larry, and Stacey (Evan) Mackey; her grandchildren, Lauren, Hayden, Seth, Sydney, Clay, Brooke, Justin, Jacob, Michael, Samantha, Raelene, Regina, Jessica, Destiney, Lexi, and Mckayla; several great-grandchildren; her siblings, Sheryl (Don) Thomas, Rustina, Dennis Mercer, Danny (Valerie) Mercer, and Bruce (Linda) Willis; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Roberta Mercer, Margaret and Berle Hesler; brothers, Tony Mercer and Gary Claybrooke.
