Pauline K. (Hartmann) Denning Obituary

Pauline K. Denning, 96, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Heritage Center in Evansville. Pauline was born in Posey County on June 8, 1929, the daughter of the late William and Anna (Folz) Hartmann.

In 1949, Pauline married Francis Denning at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, and together they began their family. Pauline was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in raising her children and helping her husband on the family farm. She was deeply involved in her children’s and later her grandchildren’s lives—always offering love, guidance, and support in any way she could. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, cooking, and playing bingo and clabber.

A lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Pauline lived her faith daily. She was also active in her community as a past member of the Moose Lodge and a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.

Pauline is survived by her sons, Paul (Cherri), David (Carmie), Stephen (Dottie), and Bernard (Elesia) Denning; daughters, Patricia Denning Wolf, Rosemary (Tom) Hall, Becky (Ron) Mayer, and Jennifer (Kevin) King; son-in-law, Nick Stanley; sister, Mary Rexing; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Denning; daughter, Diane Stanley; grandchildren, Hans and Gretchen Stanley; brothers, Bill, Bob, and Don Hartmann; and sisters, Rita Hausenour and Dorothy Kissell.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, with Father Darnis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the start of Mass.
