Shirley Anne (Moore) Mulvey-Cox

Shirley Anne (Moore) Mulvey-Cox, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Shirley was born on October 27, 1935, the daughter of Louis and Helen Moore. She married Kenneth Wayne Mulvey and he preceded her in death in 1999. She later married Chester Cox who also preceded her in death in 2021.

Shirley loved being at the river camp in Illinois which her and Wayne purchased and moved to in the 60’s. She greatly enjoyed entertaining the many campers that would come to their river camp by hosting fish fries and cookouts for them. She made many lifelong friends there. She also raised her 3 children at the river camp, and it was the best of times for her. She loved to sit around the campfire and drink a beer and roasting hot dogs. She had a passion for antiques, rummage sales, and thrift shops. She also liked gardening and canning her vegetables. The past few years she went to the Eagles nearly every Tuesday for a beer or two. She especially loved sitting on the porch and watching the river. It was so peaceful for her. Everyone knew Shirley as “mema” and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Matt) Uebelhack, Becky Seitz; son, Jeff (Cheryl) Mulvey; grandchildren, Ryan Lodge, Katie (Juan) Cortes, Haley Seitz, Drew (Amanda) Seitz, Jennifer (Rasheed) Groomes; great-grandchildren, Javi Cortes, Hazel, Kayden, and Kingston; sisters, Jennie Bainbridge, Peggy Reed, and Karen Robling.  She is preceded in death by, her parents, husbands, brothers, Billy, Paul, Owen, and Charles Moore; sisters, Mary Dial, Betty McKinney, and Dorothy Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Denning Family Funeral Home. Rev Dallas Robinson will be officiating, with burial to follow at Level Hill Cemetery in Junction, IL. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until time of service.
