Stephen W. Cross

Stephen Wayne Cross, 78, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away on September 21, 2024, at Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland Florida.

Steve was born June 28, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Lemuel and Emily (Carroll) Cross.

Steve attended Mt. Vernon Senior High School and went on to serve in the United Stated Army during the Vietnam War. He worked and retired from the Laborer’s Union Local 561.

Steve’s biggest love was his family. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities, sporting events, dance recitals, just spending as much time as he could with them. He was most proud of being “Pawsey”. He also loved fishing, spot shoots, or just being outdoors.

Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia (Keene) Cross; children, Eric (Kim) Cross, Jamie (Shauna) Cross, Matthew (Angelina) Cross; grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Cuellar, Madison (Chris) Kaufman, Matthew Cross II, Cheyenne Cross; great-grandchildren, Luke, Collin, Andrew Cuellar; and brother, Roger (Karen) Cross.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Delores Hostetler and Sharon Turner.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
