Terry E. Butts, 64, of Shawneetown, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Terry was born in Eldorado the son of the late Neal & Geneva (Thorne) Butts on February 6, 1960.
Terry worked several jobs when he was younger from, Howard Brothers Farm in Shawneetown, Kent Plastics in Evansville, until their closure, then went to Babcock and Wilcox retiring from there after many years of working there as a millwright. The job he took most pride in was helping others. Terry never met a stranger and was the first person to help someone if he could. Terry had accepted Jesus into his heart and was baptized on July 3, shortly before his passing. He enjoyed dancing, cooking, RC, woodworking, motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, and camping at the round pond. He was the past president of the Gallatin County Historical Society. Above all else Terry loved his family fiercely and spending time with his kids and pugs.
Terry is survived by his children, Mikel Butts and Amanda (Dale Cooper) Butts; step-grandchildren, Thomas, Kevin, Aaliyah, and Angel; sister, Thalitha (Art) Deras; several nieces and nephews; and his pugs, Porkchop and Gizmo. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald “Butch” Butts and Kenneth Thorne.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matthew Lee and his staff for all the care and compassion they have shown Terry through his illness as well as the Deaconess Midtown Staff, and a special thanks to Rev. Bud Hubbard and Terry's close friends who came to see him before his passing.
