Charles L. Thompson, 74, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Deaconess Hospital. Charlie was born in Savah on March 3, 1949, the son of Maurice and Viola (Alldredge) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Susan (Hundley) Thompson, on August 13, 2019.
Charlie was an Mt. Vernon High School graduate. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. He later went to work at CountryMark Refinery and retired after working there for 40 years. He was a member of the Thursday morning breakfast club and played Santa for the club’s Christmas party for local kids. He also enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his dog, Stella. Mostly he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Michelle (David) Blandford and Scott (Amanda) Thompson; grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Blandford, and Max and Sadie Thompson; sister, Carolyn Darr; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Roy, Eddie, and Bill Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Denning Family Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery with the American Legion Owen Dunn post conducting military rites. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
