John D. Parrish

John D. Parrish, 58, of Mt. Vernon, passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2024, with his family by his side. John was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 15, 1965, the son of the late Maurice Parrish and Neva (Clark) Schaeffer.

John worked for Dean’s Diner for many years, he loved interacting with all the customers. He was a people person willing to help anyone without hesitation. He loved his family and told everybody all about his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and playing dice or other games. He also loved to be outside working, or collecting scrap.

John is survived by his children, Alex Parrish, Hope (Kadaren) Trapp, and Brandon Neaveill; grandchildren, Jaxson Parrish, Carmen Webb, and Asher Trapp; sisters, Teresa Daniel, Georgia (Phillip) Kaiser, Wendy Pilkington, and Lisa Schaeffer; many aunts and uncles, several nieces and nephews, and his close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, David Schaeffer; and siblings, David Schaeffer Jr, and Jackie Cummings.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev David Payne officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until service time on Tuesday. A private burial will take place at a later date. The family will have a meal after the services at the funeral home, any meal items can be brought to the funeral home.
